The HTC ThunderBolt is Verizon's first 4G LTE phone. This super fast device is more than just a smartphone, it is a wireless powerhouse. The HTC ThunderBolt will deliver the ultimate wireless experience. With 4G speeds, streaming videos and downloading movies will be lightening fast. After your downloads finish, you can pop out the kickstand, turn up the surround sound volume, and enjoy your media on a large 4.3" screen. With Android™ 2.2, this device will make your life much easier with thousands of apps to choose from. The ThunderBolt also includes a 32 GB mircroSD card for tons of added memory!

ThunderBolt by HTC has a spacious 4.3-inch display.
What cell phone compares to this model? The ThunderBolt by HTC is similar to Sprints HTC EVO 4G.
Why should I get this phone? You want a high-end 4G Android 2.2 smartphone that offers a solid video viewing experience.
In a nutshell: Theres a lot to like about Verizons first 4G LTE smartphone, the ThunderBolt by HTC. It has a speedy 1GHz processor, tons of memory out-of-the box, and a kickstand that makes it a pleasure to watch movies on the spacious 4.3-inch touchscreen.
The ThunderBolt by HTC is one good-looking smartphone and that has a lot to do with its gorgeous 4.3-inch touchscreen display. Its bright and can be viewed in direct sunlight. The entire front of the cell phone is essentially a large screen. In case youre wondering, the screen is slightly larger than the iPhone. Of course, the cell phone attracts its fair share of fingerprints, but thats the case with most touchscreen cell phones currently available. The ThunderBolt has a touchscreen QWERTY keyboard, which is actually HTCs own touch keyboard, not the one found within the Google Android operating system. Theres a newer version of the keyboard that includes arrows for better navigation when inputting text. We were impressed with the amount of times we tapped the correct letter on the first try and how well it learned the words we used on a regular basis.

Use the built-in kickstand to view movies in comfort.
Testing the ThunderBolt by HTC
The user interface is fairly straightforward and icon friendly. To access the cell phones applications simply select the up arrow key and theyll appear. There are a few things to note about navigation. If youre in a screen and want to go back to the previous screen simply press the back arrow. If you want to exit a program simply press the button with a picture of a house. Whenever youre in an application and want to do more, press the Menu key and a set of options will appear.
The phone is also loaded with tons of applications including RockBand, Amazon Kindle e-book reader, Blockbuster, Rhapsody, Lets Golf 2, and a TV/Video app called Bitbop. There are a few of our favorite HTC apps loaded as well such as the Flashlight and Footprints. The latter is an application that allows you to take a picture of a place, get all the information available about it from the web including a map, and even add a note. The idea is that whenever you go back to that place you can revisit or just share it with friends.
Overall, surfing the web on the ThunderBolt by HTC was a fluid experience with the ability to zoom and scroll around web pages with ease.

for snapping self-portraits and an 8-megapixel camera with auto focus and led flash on the back of the cell phone. Music Features: Playback of music through the ThunderBolt by HTCs speaker is loud and not too tinny. Theres also a FM radio app, but youll need to plug in headphones to use that feature.
Connectivity: The ThunderBolt by HTC works with Verizons 3G and new 4G LTE networks. The cell phone is automatically set to 3G and if you want to use the 4G network you can turn it on in the phones Wireless Network menu found under the Settings option. It also has the Mobile HotSpot feature so you can share the data connection with up to eight other WiFi-enabled devices.

The microUSB port lacks a cover making it easy to charge.
Battery Life: We were a little disappointed in the ThunderBolt by HTCs battery life. We definitely wish the battery lasted longer; when WiFi was turned on we were able to go a complete workday before needing to recharge the cell phone. That said, when WiFi of 4G wasnt activated the cell phone did have better battery life. If you plan on using the ThunderBolt as a Mobile HotSpot, youll definitely want to have the cell phone charging simultaneously. The good news is that the cell phone will charge when attached to a computer via the included USB-to-microUSB cable. We should note that depending on what applications you download to the smartphone, battery life can drain faster.
The HTC Sense overlay combined with the speedy 1GHZ processor, 4G connectivity and Android 2.2 experience makes the ThunderBolt by HTC a real powerhouse smartphone. We just wish it had better battery life.

The contract sucks, no 4g even though maps say yes, phone is stuffed with bloatware, can't get rid of it. Can't upgrade phone, Verizon won't allow. Battery life is ridiculous. Would like to see if it sends or receives through a brick wall.

Great phone all around, but you have to purchase the larger battery. I bought 2 2750 mAh batteries with charging base, which also includes the new "bumped-out" back cover. It doesn't make the phone that much bigger but it has an enormous impact on battery life. 4G is ridiculously fast, and there is more access than I expected. Love the phone.

Very pleased with the Thunderbolt phone. Not so much with the promotion and package promised.

The HTC ThunderBolt is an excellent piece of hardware. It’s not quite the Lamborghini of the mobile phone world, but it certainly tops every other 4G device currently available from HTC, and it’s the first phone to run on Verizon’s 4G LTE network. Read the full review on Wired.com.

Probably the worst-kept secret phone of CES, the HTC Thunderbolt is finally official on Verizon's 4G LTE network. I got a chance to play with the HTC Thunderbolt on the showfloor...
It may not have a dual-core processor, but the 4.3-inch HTC Thunderbolt is a beauty to behold -- not to mention a speed demon with Verizon LTE on board.
